A concert by the Woodford Singers on the 17th of July at 1 p.m.

Admission is free. There will be a retiring collection in aid of St Mary Abchurch.

The concert will include pieces by living composers including works by Ola Gjeilo, John Rutter and Sarah Quartel, plus extracts from Bob Chilcott’s Furusato.  There will also be more familiar items.

Since its formation in 2011, this friendly ladies choir has gained an excellent reputation and a keen following, with performances of a unique and varied repertoire.  The ladies have recently returned from the Isle of Wight - their second Tour - where they performed in Newport Minster and Quarr Abbey.  The Choir’s intention is to share quality music-making in the local community and further afield, while creating a sense of belonging for the members themselves.  This month’s theme of “Belonging” is, therefore, most appropriate on several layers, and The Woodford Singers are delighted to be able to perform at St Mary Abchurch and share reflective music.

Katy Taylor is classically trained by Dutch chamber musician Eleonore Pameijer (2009-2012) and she is also a scholarship student of the Galway Flute Academy, run by Sir James and Lady Jeanne Galway (since 2020). She resides in London and works as a freelance musician and teacher. Her CD Solo for Flute was released in 2013, including  works by Bach, Debussy, Ibert and Koechlin. She has featured as a guest artist in events at the Hermitage Museum in 2011 in Amsterdam and performed for the Dutch musical foundation Kunst in de Kamer the previous year. She has taken classes in Alexander-Technique with Dutch teacher Arie Jan Hoorweg and she uses her knowledge to make her students play with greater musical freedom.

Yiyao Li is currently doing her postgraduate studies in collaborative piano at Royal college of music, studying with Simon Lepper, Kathron Sturrock and Roger Vignoles.

During her time there, she actively participates in performances and competitions. She also takes part in the Leeds lieder Festival as the young artist in 2025.
